EFF THE CRTC!

As an adendum to my last post, I would like to extend a giant FU To the CRTC.

Re: Skype and Google Voice

Both services are prevented from offering Canadians incoming calls by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. CRTC rules require all phone providers to include enhanced 911, which enables emergency operators to automatically locate callers.

  1. This is why we can’t have nice things. I’ll happily sign (HAND SIGN, and mail.. like.. a letter) something for a communication company to not have to offer me E911 over that line.

I concur 100%. Can we get the CRTC to actually listen to us? It’d be nice if Google pulled a google.cn and just did whatever they wanted.

I found a little info on how Vonage provides 9-11 service in Canada: http://www.vonage.ca/inclusive-call-features/911-dialing/

Good to know. Their 911 workaround seems a little problematic, but at the same time, Google should be able to pull of something similar.
