UPDATE 05/2012: If this isn’t working for you anymore, you might want to try this new method.
UPDATE: Some visitors are reporting that this works for Hulu as well.
The relationship between Comedy Central and Canada’s Comedy Network is the worst example of what can happen when rights owners assert copyright on the internet, based on national borders. If you are not aware – like Hulu, TV.com and others – Comedy Central videos will not play in Canada, but it’s worse. ComedyCentral.com – the entire domain – is unavailable to Canadian IPs! When you try visit it, you are redirected to comedynetwork.ca.
I found a workaround to this buried in a comment thread on reddit. Firefox users only:
For Canadian viewers, if you are using firefox, install the following addon:
http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/967 then:1) In Firefox, Go to tools->modify headers
2) From the drop down box on the left select add
3) Then enter: “X-Forwarded-For” in the first input box without the quotation marks
4) Enter: “12.13.14.15” in the second input box without the quotation marks
5) Leave the last input box empty, and save the filter, and enable it

6) Click the ‘Configuration’ tab on the right then proceed to check the ‘always on’ button.Close the Modify Headers box and it should work.
Works like a charm!

Not only is Comedy Central not available in Canada, it appears that Comedy Network is not available in the US! I just tried the link from here in Massachusetts and got told “You are not authorized to view this page” and “IP address of the client has been rejected.”
That is really creepy.
Yeah, that actually makes a lot of sense. The stupid rights agreements go both ways.
You have made me a happy, happy girl.
Two thumbs way up!

Simple but effective! Thanks, this works both for personal browsing and work related items!
It's ridiculous that we even have to resort to this. Australia's comedy channel isn't blocked in Canada, neither are UK channels like BBC (who just give you an option to choose the international page of your choice, or the regular UK version).
The fascists at Comedy Central and The Comedy Network should get together with Hitler and Stalin and go take a little communist holiday in North Korea, instead of trying to censor the internet to serve their own greed.
You rock
Thank you!!!
You're very welcome.
works for adult swim too
You have no idea (or maybe you do) how good this news is. THANK YOU.
Fracking Comedy Central.
Glad to help! I’m a little surprised this hole is still open after all this time.
Came across it via a commenter’s suggestion at Ed Brayton’s Dispatches from the Culture Wars. I’ve been looking for something like this for many months; proxies never worked. This was a godsend. ★
cool beans.
Strangely enough – this still doesn’t work for me
Does not work. Tried with many american IPs. This simply does not work.

WOW!!! you fuckin ROCK!!!!!!
First off, I know nothing of Firefox. I have downloaded it & installed. I have save this modify header file “xpi”. I can not open it. I look in my Firefox “tools” & i do not see “modify headers. Can someone help please
Doug
new friefoxes have a couple different things about them. Under tools you go to web designer, modify headers should show up after you highlight that. then it’s basically the same except i have to click a “start” button in the top left of the box.Â
OK I am part way there. BUt I do not have the “configuration” button at the bottom.
Hey, in options there is a box you can check “always on”. I think we’re using a newer version of FF.
thanks DUDE!!! your a god
Thank you times a million! (Im watching Hulu now 😀
Anyone who can’t get this to work should read http://xkcd.com/627/
Thanks for this! It works wonderfully.
Not Hulu, but TV Land. Those shows from Hulu that links to TV LAND – like Boston Legal – will work but nothing inside the Hulu site.
If anybody provides cure for this one too …
I love you
big help thx. this stuff was especially annoying with mac
Dude you rock 😀 thank you so much

is showing as no longer available
Thank you
thank you! if people in Australia want to try this..it works 😉
THANK YOU!
It also works for me on the MTV USA sites.
Works here in B.C. – Yay!
I have been extremely grateful for this for a long time and thanks so much but much to my dismay this stopped working today. I am not redirected, I get to the site but when I try to open a video the message “This Content is Unavailable From Your Location” comes up. I have re-modified the header, restarted Firefox, to no avail. Anyone else have this and know of another fix?
